UsbTerminal

UsbTerminal is a terminal emulator (sometimes called "monitor"). It uses the phone’s or tablet’s USB port to communicate with external devices. The phone or tablet must support USB-Host Mode a.k.a USB On-The-Go (USB-OTG), and a USB-OTG cable is required.

Features:

● Support CDC-ACM based devices

● Support FTDI based devices

● Support Winchiphead-CH340/CH341 based devices. (This is somewhat experimental. Please send feedback).

● Support two keyboard input modes:

1. Auto - Like on a “real” terminal, there is no dedicated input field. Characters are sent to the serial device immediately as keys are clicked on the keyboard. This is the default mode.

2. Dedicated input field - Keyboard input goes to a dedicated input field and is sent to the device only after a “Send” button is pressed.

● Support sending control character (e.g. Ctrl-C)

● Support controlling of DTR and CTS

● Log sessions to files. These log files can then be analyzed, emailed, etc

● Large scroll-back buffer (configurable scroll-back buffer size)

● Blinking cursor that indicates the current cursor position on the screen

● Status line. Indication of connection state and error messages

● Build-in help. No need to be online to read the help screen

● No root required

Limitations:

● No support of escape-sequences for cursor positioning, text color, etc. This means no VT100 emulation, and that Unix programs like vi, emacs, top, etc are not supported

Supported USB devices:

● Arduino. FTDI-based (e.g. original Arduino Uno), CDC-based (e.g. Arduino Uno R3) and CH340-based (e.g. cheap Arduino clones)

● Any device that uses the FTDI FT232R chip

● Note: Prolific devices (e.g. devices based on the PL2303 chip) are currently NOT supported

If you know of other devices that use CDC-ACM that are currently not supported, and you can email me their technical details (Vendor-ID and Product-ID), I will be glad to add support for them.

A note to Arduino users:

One advantage of UsbTerminal is the way it handles DTR. Typically when an Arduino board is connected to a PC, it will reboot every time a terminal emulator application is connected to it. This is because the PC drops the DTR signal low whenever a connection is formed, and Arduino is designed to reset when DTR line is dropped low. UsbTerminal on the other hand, doesn’t automatically set or reset the DTR signal. When you connect a phone or tablet to an Arduino and open UsbTerminal, your Arduino continues whatever it was doing at the time. If you want it to reboot, you can easily control the DTR signal from UsbTerminal with a dedicated button.

Het maakt gebruik van de USB-poort van de telefoon of tablet te communiceren met externe apparaten. De telefoon of tablet moet de USB-host-modus ondersteunen aka USB On-The-Go (USB-OTG), en een USB-OTG-kabel nodig.

Kenmerken:

  1. Auto - Net als op een "echte" terminal, is er geen dedicated invoerveld. Tekens worden verzonden naar het serieel apparaat direct als sleutels worden geklikt op het toetsenbord. Dit is de standaard modus.

  2. Dedicated invoerveld - Toetsenbordinvoer gaat naar een speciale invoerveld en wordt pas na een 'Verzenden' knop wordt ingedrukt om het apparaat gestuurd.

● Ondersteuning verzenden controle karakter (bijvoorbeeld Ctrl-C)

● Ondersteuning controlling van DTR en CTS

● Log sessies om bestanden. Deze logbestanden kunnen vervolgens worden geanalyseerd, per e-mail, etc

● Grote scroll-back buffer (configureerbaar scroll-back buffer size)

● Knipperend cursor die de huidige positie van de cursor geeft aan op het scherm

● Status lijn. Vermelding van verbinding staat en foutmeldingen

● Build-in help. Geen behoefte om online te zijn om de hulp scherm te lezen

● geen wortel vereist

Beperkingen:

● Geen ondersteuning van de escape-sequenties voor cursor positionering, tekstkleur, enz. Dit betekent dat er geen VT100-emulatie, en dat Unix programma's zoals vi, emacs, top, etc niet worden ondersteund

Ondersteunde USB-apparaten:

● Arduino. FTDI-based (bijvoorbeeld originele Arduino Uno), CDC-based (bijvoorbeeld Arduino Uno R3) en CH340-based (bijvoorbeeld goedkope Arduino klonen)

● Elk apparaat dat de FTDI FT232R chip gebruikt

● Opmerking: Prolific apparaten (bijvoorbeeld apparaten op basis van de pl2303 chip) worden momenteel niet ondersteund

Als u weet van andere apparaten die CDC-ACM gebruiken die momenteel niet ondersteund worden, en je kunt me mailen hun technische gegevens (Vendor-ID en product-ID), zal ik blij zijn om ondersteuning toe te voegen voor hen.

Een nota aan Arduino gebruikers:

Een voordeel van UsbTerminal is de manier waarop het omgaat DTR. Meestal wanneer een Arduino board is aangesloten op een PC, zal het elke keer een terminal emulator aanvraag wordt aangesloten rebooten. Dit komt omdat de PC laat de DTR signaal vanaf wanneer een verbinding wordt gevormd, en Arduino is ontworpen om te resetten als DTR lijn vanaf valt. UsbTerminal anderzijds, niet automatisch instellen of de DTR-signaal gereset. Wanneer u een telefoon of tablet aan te sluiten op een Arduino open UsbTerminal, uw Arduino blijft wat het aan het doen was op het moment. Als je wilt dat het opnieuw opstarten, kunt u gemakkelijk het DTR signaal van UsbTerminal bedienen met een speciale knop.</div> <div class="show-more-end">
